Club News June 2016

Letter from the President (Updated)
June 15, 2016

Dear Fellow Woodbridge Music Club Members,

Thank you all for submitting your renewed membership applications and continuing your participation in the Woodbridge Music Club. I also want to welcome all new member to the Club and I look forward to meeting you at some of our events during the coming year. We have an exciting schedule for the coming year and I hope you and your students will take advantage of the many concerts, competitions, and workshops that we have planned.

I am pleased to report that Zuill Bailey and I were able to meet with Dr. Ed Stephenson, Supervisor of the Arts for the Prince William County Schools, on August 9 to discuss opportunities for student instrumentalists and vocalists within the National Federation of Music Clubs. We explained how music educators, through membership in the National Federation of Music Clubs, can enter their students in various competitions at the local, state, and national levels for scholarship awards and other honors. Dr. Stephenson was very receptive to the proposed concept and invited us to present the program to the Prince William County music educators at a training session on August 24th. Zuill has put in a great deal of work into this initiative, and I applaud his efforts on behalf of our music educators and student musicians!

We have a number of events coming up in the near future and I hope all of you are able to join and participate in them. The Woodbridge Music Club kick off event will be a social gathering at my home on September 17, beginning at 4:00 PM. The theme is Oktoberfest – a Bavarian tradition usually celebrated in mid to late September – but for us it will be an informal opportunity to renew friendships within the club and welcome new members or potential members into our organization. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. An evite will be coming out within the next couple weeks.

Other upcoming events include:

• September 24: Attacca String Quartet, 7:00 PM, St Mathew Lutheran Church, 12351 All Saints Place, Woodbridge, VA
• October 8: Grace United Methodist Church, 9750 Wellington Road, Manassas, VA
