Spring Convention of VFMC

It is easy to overlook how important the VFMC is to those of us who are music teachers - that we do rely on the support of the organization (VFMC) to have and be able to participate in festival each year. Right now, we need your support. Here is how you can help: the VFMC has a spring convention, held each year in one of three districts. This year it is being held (and hosted) by our district (District II) of which I am the director.

The convention will take place Wednesday-Saturday, May 14-17 in the Holiday Inn at Quantico Center at 3901 Fettler Park Drive, Dumfries, VA. The hotel is conveniently located very close to the Interstate 95 freeway entrance off of Dumfries Road By attending the convention, purchasing the meals at the convention, and attending the concerts, you will do your part in assuring the continuing success of the VFMC and the WMC. In particular for this event, the use of the facility depends on a dollar amount spent on meals during the convention. We have negotiated for reasonably priced meals throughout the week. Thus far, we have received very few meal requests. Please plan to eat some of the meals with us during the convention to help offset our financial requirement.

Registrations for WMC members not involved in the VFMC itself or its meetings will be subsidized. Please note "WMC association only" on your meal request reform. Your only cost will include the cost of the meals themselves. Postmark deadline for meal reservations is April 30 to be sent to Pat Moler, District II Treasurer. Please refer to the VFMC web-site (vfmc-music.org) or the attachment of the
official call for the schedule of events and the forms. (Note change in schedule: Wednesday evening concert. See below.)

Additionally, we are looking for people to work shifts at the registration table and to contribute their time and effort in making a display and/or "manning" the table at the WMC "Connect" Session (see explanation below). Let me know if you would be willing to help out with this in some way.

Specific information regarding the convention is listed below.

REGISTRATIONS AND MEALS

The postmark deadline for registration and meals is APRIL 30. Please plan to join us for as many meals as possible. We want to make this convention a success and to make that happen we need you.

"CONNECT" SESSION

Part of this convention will include an opportunity for senior clubs to connect with other members of the VFMC and show what their club does. Each senior club is asked to set up some kind of display which demonstrates the kinds of activities and events they sponsor throughout the year, things they do for the community, the history of the club, etc. (Each club will be provided table space in which to set up a display.) The three districts have each been assigned a 20-minute time slot in which the senior clubs in that district have some of their members "man" the displays and be available to explain and interact with the VFMC members from other districts who will be perusing the area. I view this as your club's "show and tell" time. We will need a display of some sort and 1 or more members to be present during our "connect" time slot. The District II time slot is just before the lunch meal on Thursday, May 15 at 11:30. (Displays can be set up that morning at the tables provided in the hallway area just outside the meeting room.) Please send me a reply as soon as possible to let me know how you might help.
