A Letter from the President
January 31, 2011
Dear Fellow WMC Members,
The Woodbridge Music Club started off the New Year on January 15 with a delightful program at
Westminster at Lake Ridge performed by the Navy Windjammer Quintet. The program was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by the residents and others in attendance. Thanks to all who helped in preparation for this concert.
There are a lot of student events coming up in the next couple of months as well as WMC programs and
meetings. Below is a list of those upcoming events. Please check your yearbook or on the web site for
additional information.
♦ Tuesday, February 8 – 10:00 am Board meeting at the home of Betty McCary (1608 Ashford Place,
Woodbridge).
♦ Sunday, February 13 – 3:00 and 4:00 student recitals at St. Paul United Methodist Church, (1400 G
Street, Woodbridge).
♦ Saturday, February 19 – 7:00 pm Concert by The Navy Brass Quartet at Westminster at Lake Ridge
Center (12191 Clipper Drive, Woodbridge). Should be great! Don’t miss it.
♦ February 25‐26 and March 12 ‐ VFMC Festival at the Manassas Baptist Church (8800 Sudley Rd., Manassas). The paperwork for this event has been submitted, and the teachers and students are in the final days of performance preparation. If you are new to this event, please feel free to contact me or
another member who has taken part in the past.
♦ Saturday, March 5 ‐ Kiki Thomaidis Piano and WMC Instrumental Competitions.
Monday, March 7 – WMC Vocal Competition. All competitions to be held at St. Paul United Methodist
Church. This is a wonderful opportunity for young musicians to compete. Please encourage your
students to participate. A mandatory winners’ recital is scheduled that Sunday, March 13 at 3:00
p.m. TEACHERS, be sure your students know that in order for the winners to receive their certificates
and monetary awards they must perform the next day in the winners’ recital. There will be no
exceptions. Applications are due to Betty McCary – postmark deadline is February 11. See attachment.
♦ Saturday, March 19 – 2:00 ‐4:00 pm Workshop (Taking Students to the Winning Level) at the McCoart Building (1 County Complex Ct., Woodbridge). Workshop will be a panel discussion of questions
submitted by WMC members. Teachers, please submit questions that you would like to be discussed to
Laura Riski and join us that day. For complete information see attachment.
♦ Saturday, April 2 – 5:00 pm House Concert at Leslie Bennett’s home (12355 Hunters Grove Road,
Manassas). Please consider performing or simply attending. Contact Katie Largent at
katieKT@verizon.net. There will be a short WMC meeting following the program.
I want to thank everyone who has helped make our club run so smoothly this year. As we head into the
spring, I hope you will share some of your ideas for next year. Remember to visit our web site for any
