A letter from the President

January 27, 2009

Dear Fellow WMC Members,

The Woodbridge Music Club started off the New Year last Saturday with a delightful program at Westminster at Lake Ridge performed by the Navy Band Brass Quartet. The program was very well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by the residents and others in attendance. Thanks to all who helped in preparation for this concert.

With the New Year also comes new resolutions, and one of mine is to continue to keep you informed about musical events associated with our club. There are a lot of student events coming up in the next couple of months as well as WMC programs and meetings. Below is a list of those upcoming events. Please check in your yearbook or on the web site for additional information.

  • The second student recital of the Season will take place on Sunday, February 8 at 2:30 p.m. (note the time change!) in St. Paul United Methodist Church, (1400 G Street, Woodbridge).

  • There will be a Board meeting at the home of Betty McCary (1608 Ashford Place, Woodbridge) on Tuesday, February 10 at 9:30 a.m.

  • The VFMC Festival will take place on February 20-21 and on March 14 at the Manassas Baptist Church (8800 Sudley Rd., Manassas). All paperwork for this event has been submitted, and the teachers and students are in the final days of performance preparation. If you are new to this event, please feel free to contact me or another member who has taken part in the past.

  • The Kiki Thomaidis Scholarship Competition is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7 at St. Paul United Methodist Church. This is a wonderful opportunity for music students to compete. A mandatory winners’ recital is scheduled that Sunday, March 8 at 2:30 p.m. TEACHERS, be sure your students know that in order for the winners to receive their certificates and monetary awards they must perform the next day in the winners’ recital. There will be no exceptions.

  • Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 21 when Donna Baldwin will present an evening of piano music at 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul United Methodist Church. The program should be great. It is free and open to the public, but donations are appreciated as always. Please plan to attend and perhaps bring along a neighbor, friend, or potential new member.

I want to thank everyone who has helped make our club run so smoothly this year. As we head into the spring, I hope you will share some of your ideas for next year. Remember to visit our web site for any information concerning or related to our club. I wish you all a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you soon.

Musically,
